Why IGL Ceramic Coatings

Quartz Ceramic Coating Facts

The detailing world can be confusing for customers, especially when they aren’t detailers themselves, businesses use a lot of language that, lets be honest, to 90% of people will mean quite literally nothing, meaning you need to do your own research and work out what actually is the best product on the market.

At IGL Coatings UK we are making it our mission to educate our customers on all of the detailing language which means you can make a decision that you know is best.

With our recent Quartz Ceramic Coating launch you will see us mention ‘high solids’, ‘scrub resistance’ and ‘durability’ but what do these things actually mean and how do you know that you are getting what you pay for?

About ‘High Solid Ceramic Coatings’

What is High Solids in Ceramic Coatings?

Solid content is also known as active material content which is essentially the engine room of how a coating works. The solid content within a coating is the part of the coating that does the work to keep your car cleaner and glossier than others however, there is a trade off … it’s also by far the most expensive part of a coating!

The solid content will provide all the key specs of how a coating performs such as scrub resistance, pH resistance, hardness, gloss levels and durability. All of the key attributes we love on a coated car.

How do you test High Solids?

Unfortunately, this is where the detailing industry has always fallen short … most companies will not test they will simply make “claims”. Until IGL Coatings arrived on the scene, there was little to no testing whatsoever in this unregulated industry.

As IGL Coatings was born from industrial testing, we set the market alight with the harsh truths about most competitors. Personally, at IGL we test using various ASTM testing and TUV testing to get the most accurate results and descriptions of our products, not to mention all products are built to various ISO standards. IGL Quartz infinite graphene is no different in fact, we’ve even stepped up the test to push the limits as far as possible.

How does IGL Coatings Quartz Ceramic Coating high solids compare to the competition?

In the words of Jeremy Clarkson “ It’s hard not to look smug at this point” … Simple answer they do not even compete with what we have created in an entry level system. Solids content of current coatings within the UK space are as low as 20% and rise to 40%. Even the mid level coatings in the UK space, there is only one coating at 66% which is still massively under IGL Quartz Infinite Graphene which packs a punch at 80% Solids content. Paired with our easy to use carrier system for application it really is a special mix.

About ‘Scrub Resistance in Ceramic Coatings’

What is Scrub Resistance in Ceramic Coatings?

We all love our cars and, as part of that, we want to wash our cars and wipe them down with quick detailers etc as often as we can to keep them clean and show off the ceramic coated surface shine.

In doing this, every time we wash the car the wash pad or microfibre cloth acts similarly to an abrasive and can abrade away the surface of the coating after many washes. Although ceramic coatings are the most durable protectants, they still have a lifespan and need to be maintained. It is imperative that we keep researching and developing ways to boost scrub cycles to provide you with the most durable coatings on the planet. This specification is one of the most overlooked in the industry.

How do you test Scrub Resistance?

It’s time to geek out … IGL Coatings Quartz Infinite Graphene was tested using ASTM D2486, which is s threshold test to determine how many scrub cycles the coating can withstand until failure point is hit. 90% of manufacturers DO NOT run this test and here’s why … the average scrub cycle result of companies that test is 2000 cycles.IGL Coatings Quartz Infinite graphene test result was >120,000; yes, you read that correct an incomparable differentiation between them and this is just our entry level system.

How does IGL Quartz Ceramic Coating scrub resistance compare to the competition?

This one is hard to answer for 80% of other brands, as put simply, they don’t even bother to test this specification, which in our opinion, tells us is because the results are far from satisfactory. We are more than confident that as an entry level coating at this price point we have by far the most durable scrub cycle rating at over 120,000.

About ‘Durability in Ceramic Coatings’

What is Durability in Ceramic Coatings?

Put simply, it’s the length of time that the product will be actively “protecting” your paint from UV damage, acid damage, etchings etc., and also the length of time the product will provide you with the gloss and self cleaning properties ceramic coatings are known for.

How do you test Durability of a Ceramic Coating?

Again, unfortunately, this unregulated industry doesn’t care much for testing, however, we do and, again, have utilised TUV, salt spray, accelerated testing and ASTM testing on the product to find its breaking point.

IGL Coatings has always under-promised and over delivered and this product remains the same, with official test result gleaning a 3 year durability however to factor in any human error etc it was brought to the market as a 30 month coating.

Actually, IGL Coatings had been preparing the coating as a two year coating, however, the results were that impressive that we changed it to 30 months - that’s why the box states two years (lesson learnt order labels after testing) We are all human … just.

How does IGL Quartz Ceramic Coating Durability compare to the competition?

As an entry level system, most coatings in the price range per 30ml claim from 12 to 18 months, however, most have no proven data or testing to back this up. IGL Quartz Ceramic Coating is built on proven real life data that it will provide you with the protection and durability that we state. Not only that as an all around package for gloss, beading, pH resistance, solid content and scrub resistance we are well above the competition.
